  1. Firstly - How This Program Came About
  2.  
  3. I have many games that although work on the Mega-STE and work in 16Mhz
  4. Cache ON will not work with  programs   such as the Control Panel, but
  5. instead need to be autobooted  form  a  clean  (inside and outside :})
  6. computer.  This caused great problems and  stopped me form using 16MHz
  7. for the games (and occasional serious programs) I wanted.

  9. Eventually I managed to  find  a  PD  program  to change the processor
  10. speed.  However this had problems.   The  first being that the program
  11. only allowed choice at the desktop OR it meant using a different
  12. program for each speed.
  13.  
  14. SO I set about investigating the  address  and ways that the processor
  15. speed could be changed.
  16.  
  17. This program is the  version  of  a  program  written to address these
  18. problems and suit my needs, I hope it suits your own.

  36. How to use this program:
  37.  
  38. From the Desktop:
  39.  
  40. Simply Run the program from any folder or drive.
  41. The alertbox that comes up has three buttons:
  42.  
  43. 16Mhz C      =  16Mhz Processor Speed, Cache ON
  44. 16Mhz        =  16Mhz Processor Speed, Cache OFF
  45. 8Mhz         =  8Mhz Processor Speed, NO CACHE
  46.  
  47. The currently highlighted (bold) button  indicates  the speed that the
  48. processor is currently set at.
  49.  
  50. To select a new speed simply click on the desired speeds button
  51. To stick with the same speed,  press return this selects the currently
  52. highlighted button (you  could  click  on  it),  which  is the current
  53. processor speed.

  56. From the Auto Folder:

  58. This is slightly different.
  59.  
  60. Upon loading the program  has  a  simple  numerical  menu.  choose the
  61. speed you would like, or quit  by  pressing the number of your choice.
  62. Your current processor speed is shown below the choices.

  64. WORDS OF WARNING:
  65.  
  66. This program in no way checks the  type  of computer it is running on.
  67. This MAY cause a problem for  non-MEGA  STEs.   It may well crash your
  68. computer.  It is suggested that  if  you  aren't  using a MEGA STE you
  69. don't run the program.   FALCONs  and  TTs  -  I  haven't the foggiest
  70. whether this program will run or not, it may or it may not.

  74. This program has been tested on a MEGA STE, TOS 2.05
  75.  
  76. If you have a different computer (eg.  TOS 2.06 Mega STE, or a FALCON,
  77. TT etc.) and you test  this  program  and  functions Ok. then register
  78. (its free),  and I will  add  your  computer,  and name (if you don;'t
  79. want your name noting  then  say  so.)  to  the  list,  for all future
  80. releases.
